Olive Branch Petition!
The Olive Branch Potetion was adopted by the Continental Congress in July 8th 1775 in a Final attempt to avoid a Full-Blown War between the Thirteen Colonies that the Congress represented and Great Britain. The Olive Branch Potetion was important because it showed that the American Colonies didn't truly want to break away from England. They simply wanted to go back to the time of producing a beneficial effect.

1. On June 3rd, 1775, Congress passed a resolution forming a committee to draft a letter to the King.
2. The members of the committee were, Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Johnson, John Rutledge, John Jay, And William Livingston.
3. Thomas Jefferson Wrote the first draft.
4. John Dickson thought the draft was to harsh and it would only anger the king.
5. The Olive Branch Potetion was signed by 48 members of congress and entrusted to Richard Penn of Pennsylvania.
6. William Penn was the founder of the colony.
